The Joker in your company

Heroes & Villains

Can you figure who is the good and the bad?

Arthur Fleck; The “Joker” characterized by the great Joaquin Phoenix made most of us empathize the clown-for-hire who struggles personally but finds some form of optimism in performing for others and trying to make people laugh. All he aspires is to be stand-up comedian who is seen by others. He wanted to be noticed.

In his eyes, Gotham is struggling with crime, unemployment, and poverty. All due to the politicians’ corruption and misconduct in their business, the people of Gotham city are poor hideouts idiots who doesn’t stand for their rights.

Arthur argues that anyone else like Arthur (in his eyes, the real victims, the workers) would be ignored and walked over. Arthur made his way to confront Murray, the TV presenter who represent the upper class, the media manipulator who felt nothing for the people and was part of the corruption standing by Thomas Wayne reaching his political and financial status. Arthur had the chance to confront Murray with hard questions, Murray then recognizes how ill his mind is and how dangerous he is, and before answering his questions, “What do you get when you cross a mentally ill loner with a society that abandons him and treats him like trash?!”, the enraged Arthur then screams, “You get what you deserve!” before blowing Murray’s brains out in front of everyone. Arthur then laughs genuinely for the first time in his life.

Gotham is now overrun by rioting citizens dressed as clowns after hearing about what Arthur did. And while Arthur is being taken by the police, he looks out the window and laughs gleefully as he sees the destruction and chaos he has caused. Just then, the clowns in an ambulance run into the car, killing the cops and freeing Arthur, who is injured and unconscious. When he awakes, Arthur finds himself surrounded by a mob of cheering mobsters in clown masks. The rioters then cheer Arthur on as he stands on a car and embraces their admiration, now that he has gotten the recognition he has long desired. He dances to their cheering standing before them, elevated like a god.

Arthur is really like The Joker virus that was first detected in 2017. a persistent malware that attacks quietly through applications and steals the user’s money by having access to users’ data, including SMS, contact list, device info, OTPs and more. The malware quietly works in the background of the phone, subscribing into silent payment services and uses your own data and applications to steal your money.

Everything is quite, nothing seems wrong while the virus works on the background causing the chaos will suddenly happen when you see the bills.

In your organization now, people like Arthur working like the Joker virus within your organization, spreading their illness, among your employees, to create the chaos, to be recognized and make you pay the bill. Find the Joker in your organization.

Finding the Joker

Do you have A Joker in your organization?

I am not sure if you have one in your organization, what I am sure of is that they are getting more and more and you can find them in all organizations, big or small, multinationals and local and of course, Government organizations. They seem so normal, smart, productive; Generally speaking, like psychopaths, the Joker in your company is intelligent, dynamic,  superficial, and has a great ability to articulate. he use these attributes to manipulate others into trusting and believing in them.

What is beneath the smile on his face are attitudes and behaviors common to psychopaths, predatory, greedy and destructive in nature and they tend to view others as either killers or victims. They leave no one in peace.

How do they attract or maybe “attack” people?

They send the image of being from the people and for the people, they pretend and send a heroic image to attract followers and commit acts of violence on behalf of an ideology and standing for the poor people (workers/ employees/ teams and supervisors) in front of the bad people, the hypocrites, the politicians, (the management, C-level, and first line managers).

Playing this role makes them popular, and find the energy from the people who believe in them and the more he shows them how bad the managers are the more they believe in him as the savior and the one who will bring their rights to them.

The joker in don’t imagine themselves as lonely, depressed, unattractive, and physically weak men, they create these movements to leave such inadequacies behind. They imagine themselves in the guise of the cowboy, the Terminator, Rambo, the American sniper — heroes fighting the forces of “evil”.

Spotting the Joker

Your organization is a miniature of the society it is in, so, you have a sample of all what is outside. Everyone with his character, believes, principles and values, your company culture and values are what you aspire to achieve, but is it really?

You will have those nagging employees, lazy, teamwork avert, etc. if you are a good manager, you can handle those, no issue.

We need to spot the Joker. Let us try to give you some characteristics:

All people are idiots:

He sees everyone in the organization as an idiot and does not know how to do things, no matter how senior or junior, no matter if those idiots in the same department or not they are in the joker eyes idiots.

All Managers are corrupted:

The see all the managers in the first and second line as corrupted politicians, work only for themselves and they do not care about the people in the organization, they do not care about the organization prosperity. They just care about collecting money made by the employees.

This is not the way to do business:

See everything the organization do wrong, and will take the company to the rock-bottom of the market. The only one who knows how to manage and fly the company to the top of the sky is …. Himself.

He or she can fit in any place:

Nothing can stop them from heading the HR, Marketing, Sales, Management, Operation, Service, etc. maybe not the finance if they do not have finance background.

They are everywhere:

There are those celebrate employees, you find them everywhere and they are friends with everyone, please do not mix the Joker with those ones, I was one of them, The Joker goes into a mission around the offices and work stations, they are there for a purpose and talks stops if the manger passes, they are building allies.

Volunteers:

If there is a need to talk with the HR, GM, or any function for the rights for the teams they will volunteer to be the lead, they can organize protests, strikes, misconduct related with work tasks. They are preparing for the big chaos.

Makes up heroic stories:

They have too, or else how would they be heroes in front of their followers. They will make up stories about how did they treated the CEO in his office, how did they made the CFO sign up for the allowance without being able to open his mouth with a word.

The Chaos

He works like the trojan on your android, you are not aware, and bit by bit your device (your company) is now all ready for the chaos, the people (employees)  makes the riots.

You can see different shapes of riots and chaos, ranging from negative vibes to protest and strikes. Now you need to pay the bill of the transactions you did not make, exactly like the Joker virous, it is all from within, your team, your bad management, your own organization and business structure. You can’t deny the transactions. You have to pay the bill.

How to deal with the Joker?

Simply, get them out of your organizations, they can’t be fixed.

Jokers view others as prey, their lack of feeling and bonding to others allows them to have unusual clarity in observing the behavior of their intended victims, they are unable to form emotional attachments or feel real empathy with others, although they often have disarming or even charming personalities.

Joker is the most dangerous of all other high maintenance personalities in your organizations. When they work their way they carefully plan out every detail in advance and often have contingency plans in place. They tend to be cool, calm, and very meticulous. They make few mistakes and are never undone by their emotions.

Conclusion...

We all know the negative impact can the bad apples in your organization have?
